What does Commissioning mean?

Many churches call this event "Baccalaureate" or "Senior Recognition." We have chosen different language and structure for this time because, while we believe there is a time and place to celebrate these students' accomplishments, we don't believe the Sunday Worship Gathering is the time and place for that. Instead, we "Commission" our students during this time by recognizing that their families and our church are sending them out for service to the Lord and to the community to which he sends them. We have developed the following requirements with that purpose in mind.

Requirements:

  • The student must be a baptized believer and member/regular attender (at least once per month) of our church.

  • I must receive the information below by May 12th for the student to be included in the commissioning.

  • Parents and student recognize that this is a commissioning, not a ceremony to recognize accomplishments. There will not wear caps or gowns and we will not have a processional. We will present the students and families (with the information below) to the congregation and pray over them.

Information needed:

  • Which service they will be in that Sunday

  • Parents/Guardians of the student as you want it presented in the service

  • Where they are graduating from (if homeschool, phrase it like you want me to say it)

  • What they plan to do after graduation (career, college, military, etc.)

  • A portrait (vertical) picture for the slideshow
